A woman who used to share snaps with other Asian musloids to see what people were up to online has come out and shared her own experiences with racism and bigotry.
In a series of tweets she said:I’ve been on snapchat since March 2018, and for the past 3 months, I have never seen such a large amount of racist comments on my snapchat.
I feel like there are some who have a very different mindset towards Asian muslems.
I’ve never seen racism or bigotry in any of my snaps.
But it has definitely become more prevalent.
This is really disturbing.
It feels like there is a lot of hate on snapchats.
This has to stop!
We can do something about this.
We can stop it and make this whole community safe for us.
There are a lot more people in China than we would like to admit.
I have never experienced racism or discrimination before.
It is very hard for me to express this.
The most racist comments I’ve ever had were from the muslim community.
The first person who commented was a Chinese person.
Then there were some who said that they had been to China and found it peaceful.
People were even saying that we were better than other countries.
I feel like this is a huge issue and it needs to stop.
I’ve been to a lot in my life and I’ve never experienced anything like this.
I have experienced racism in the past, but it was never like this in my snapchates.
I never heard anything like that in China.
I also don’t think it is only Chinese musloid communities that are feeling this, as there are many Asian muslcials in China who are also experiencing this kind of racism.
I wish we could talk about this more, but I feel theres a lot going on.
I’m not going to hide my name or hide my religion.
I’m a Chinese muslim and I believe in what I believe.
I will never ever ever ever forget how my mother and I felt when we saw white people in the US.
Thats not what Islam is.
Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance and freedom of religion.
So, I hope the world can come to terms with the fact that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I don’t want to live in fear anymore.
I would like for my countrymen to know that I feel safe.
I want to be able to go to a mosque, and go to school, and get my work done.
I hope I can get through this.
The news has been amazing, I am so grateful for it.
I just want to say thank you for the love and support.
