A 28-year-old New Jersey man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after stabbing two women in their New Jersey home in the early hours of Thursday.
Mohammed Abdi Mabhouh was arrested at a home in Newark after police received a call at 1:48 a.m. local time reporting a man and a woman were suffering from stab wounds.
Officers arrived and found the victims lying in the driveway and Abdi with a stab wound to the upper torso, said Officer Jason Miller of the New Jersey State Police.
Abdi then allegedly stabbed one of the women in the neck and the other in the back.
He was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Miller said Abdi’s mother had been at the home with her two young children.
She told police that she had heard a loud bang and saw a man running away with her daughters, Miller said.
Police found Abdi at a nearby Walmart and said he admitted to being the assailant, but was not charged in the case.
Abdel Abdi was charged with attempted murder and two counts each of attempted assault and burglary in connection with the incident, the state attorney’s office said in a statement.
A Facebook page dedicated to Abdi had more than 2,000 followers when it was set up last month.
It has since been taken down.
Mabhouham has a history of mental illness and was being held without bail.
