A Muslim woman who converted from Christianity to Islam has found herself living in a ‘single Muslim community’ again.
The Australian Christian Broadcasting Network reported on Sunday that Zahra Alam had been living in the town of Wagga Wagga, in northern NSW, for about four years before becoming single again last month.
Ms Alam said her parents had supported her conversion and had offered to sponsor her.”
My parents are very supportive and they helped me get married and have helped me pay my rent,” she told the broadcaster.
The 24-year-old, who told the station she had no plans to return to the Muslim community, said she had become increasingly depressed and depressed and was concerned about her future.
She told the program she was ”angry and frustrated” and had been looking for answers.”
I have been getting very depressed, and I feel like there’s no way out, that I can turn back and do what I want to do and live in my own way, and that’s not the way my parents want me to live,” she said.
The ABC contacted Wagga’s Muslim community for comment.”
We do not have any specific information on Zahra’s conversion, but we have heard of other people who have converted to Islam,” the organisation said in a statement.
